Karen's book, A Bug-Lightful Discovery, received a 2025 Book Excellence Award in the Picture Book Category Ages 4-8. Founded in Toronto, Canada, the Book Excellence Awards is an international book awards competition dedicated to recognizing both independent and traditionally published authors for excellence in writing, design and overall market appeal.

Karen grew up in a rural area west of Chicago. With its open prairies and muddy marshes, the natural world awakened her spirit and piqued her curiosity. It was here she fell in love with all things nature related!

Writing came to Karen a bit later in life thanks to a Mountain Beaver! Her desire to teach children about the natural world led Karen to becoming an author with the publishing of her first children's book, Clark the Mountain Beaver and His Big Adventure!

Karen's passion for writing continues to lead her to inspire and uplift others to the magic and wonders of the natural world. When she is not exploring nature in her writing or photography, it is the spiritual aspects of life that take hold of her pen.

Karen lives in beautiful Washington State just outside Seattle with her family, two cats, and an assortment of wild critters that frequent her yard.
